Portugal Telecom and Huawei Technologies sign strategic cooperation agreement

Lisbon, Portugal, 8 Nov – Portugal Telecom (PT) and Huawei Technologies Sunday in Lisbon signed a strategic cooperation agreement, as part of the official visit to Portugal by the president of the People’s Republic of China, Hu Jintao.

The agreement includes installing a Huawei Services and Operations Centre in Portugal, for developing applications and services, and drawing up an internship program me for Pt staff to share their experience at some of Huawei’s Research and Development centres.

With this partnership, PT and Huawei Technologies plan to develop, test and introduce innovative solutions, as part of a strategic partnership to promote development of networks and services in markets in which PT is present.

This agreement is part of the strategy of the companies to offer their customers new generation and convergence services, regardless of their location.

Cooperation between PT and Huawei has been underway for several years in telecommunications projects in several countries.

In September 2009, the two companies signed a cooperation agreement with the aim of boosting their long term commercial relationship, boost technological development, exchange information on the current and future demands of the markets of both countries and establish a plan to launch products and services with the aim of boosting the leadership of both the countries.
