Beijing, China, 12 Nov – The ´Cape Verdean ambassador to China, Júlio Morais, said Thursday in Beijing that the next ministerial meeting of Forum Macau will give a “new drive” to the organisation, particularly noting the creation of a “development and investment fund.”
“We think that this fund could give a new drive to the Forum, creating bridges between business sectors and that is precisely the forum’s biggest challenge (…) We are on the right road, with a good dynamic and taking large strides,” the diplomat told Portuguese news agency Lusa in Beijing.
On Thursday the Macau secretary for the Economy and Finance, Francis Tam, said that China was to set up a fund to support Portuguese-speaking developing countries to promote bilateral cooperation.
In terms of Cape Verde-China relations, Morais noted that following an initial session of the mixed economic, commercial and technical cooperation commission, held in June in Beijing, relations had entered a new phase,” based on mutual concrete advantages.
He said that the private sector was for the first time taking part in specific projects and “prospects were opening up” in areas such as tourism, renewable energy, logistics, fisheries and transport, factors, which in the diplomat’s opinion, “will provide new sustainability to long term relations.” (macauhub)
