Macau, China, 12 Nov – The third ministerial meeting of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries demonstrates that Macau’s role as a platform “deserves great recognition,” Macau secretary for Economics and Finance, Francis Tam said Thursday.
Tam said that the 3rd ministerial conference, “has had greater recognition, with the participation of a high official of the country,” specifically the head of the Chinese government, Wen Jiabao.
Tam also added, without giving details, that at the Macau meeting “another step” would be taken in the creation of a development fund that will be managed by the Chinese authorities and in which Macau will also take part.
With the fund, the secretary said, it was hoped “to promote and drive economic and trade cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries.”
The 3rd Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries, due to take place in Macau on 13 and 14 November, will also be attended by leaders of the countries involved, such as Wen Jiabao and José Sócrates, representing China and Portugal, respectively.
