Sao Tome, Sao Tome and Principe, 12 Nov – The government of Sao Tome and Principe is due next Tuesday, 16 November, to announce the names of the companies competing for one of the seven blocks in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), a government source said in Sao Tome.
Minister and secretary-general of the government, Afonso Varela, told Portuguese news agency Lusa that 15 November was the end of the period to receive proposals and the next day the National Oil Agency would announce the date on which proposals would be opened.
On the sidelines of this process, the minister said that the government has ordered an inquiry into the whereabouts of over US41 million resulting from the sale of oil granted, in 2009, by Nigeria.
“The government has already ordered an inquiry to discover the whereabouts of that cash,” adding, “there is no record,” of that amount entering the public Treasury. (macauhub)
