Luanda, Angola, 17 Nov – The Angolan Ministry for Geology and Mining and Industry plans for each Angolan province to have at least one large or small scale mining activity, the secretary of state for Geology and Mining said Tuesday in Luanda.
Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, Mankenda Ambroise said that the aim was part of the sector’s aims to increase its participation in the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
He also noted that the government aimed to recover Angola’s participation in world mining production.
Thus, he said that iron ore and manganese mining at the Cassinga mines in Huíla province may begin in next three years
The exploration and transformation of iron and manganese, the secretary of state said, would be carried out by a consortium made up of public and private, national and international companies.
As well as the Cassinga project, in Huíla, Ambroise noted, without giving details, that there was another project in the north of Angola which would also launch iron exploration. (macauhub)
