Beira, Mozambique, 30 Nov – Germany is to continue to be one of Mozambique’s main donors, both in direct Budgetary Aid and in supporting sector projects , the German ambassador to Mozambique said in Beira.
Cited by Mozambican newspaper Notícias, Ulrich Klockner, who was visiting projects funded by the German government in the city of Beira and in Búzi district, said that his country provided around US$60 million each year to Mozambique, US$20 million of which in direct budgetary aid.
In terms of sectors, German supports Mozambique, for example, in education, decentralisation and rural development, via the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GTZ), as well as support via German bank KFW.
Speaking specifically about projects carried out in the area of disaster risk management, Klockner said he had been quite impressed by the way in which communities were organised both in Beira and in Búzi with a view to mitigating natural disasters.
“the projects that GTZ has carried out both in Beira and in Búzi in the areas of climate change and disaster risk management are extremely important for the local communities, and so we are going to continue providing support,” the ambassador said. (macauhub)
