Maputo, Mozambique, 7 Dec – South African group Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) is planning to invest US$200 million in a cement factory to be built in the south of Mozambique, Rádio Moçambique reported in Maputo.
The factory will have an installed capacity of 600,000 tons of cement per year, the radio station reported, citing Inorico Borier, director of Kangela, the company representing the PPC group in Mozambique.
Rádio Moçambique also said that the group was carrying out the required environmental and economic feasibility studies, and construction of the cement factory was expected to begin in February, 2011.
The PPC group, which built its first cement factory in South Africa in 1892, is the biggest supplier of cement in Southern Africa, with eight factories in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe, which altogether produce 7 million tons of cement per year. (macauhub)
