Angolan airline Taag grounds Boeing 777 aircraft due to lack of maintenance

13 December 2010

Luanda, Angola, 13 Dec – Angolan airline Taag is facing physical limitations that prevent maintenance of its fleet of aircraft in the country, the company’s chief executive said Friday in Luanda.

During a press meeting to discuss the difficulties Taag is facing due to malfunctions that grounded its long-haul fleet, the CEO said that the Boeing 777s were very sophisticated aircraft and added that, “we still do not have our workshops equipped with the appropriate material.”

Another important aspect required to carry out maintenance, he said, was a hangar and currently 4 de Fevereiro International Airport does not have an area with capacity to house a Boeing 777.

Also according to the CEO, Taag has maintenance contracts with companies in countries to which it regularly flies to such as China, South Africa, United Arab Emirates and Brazil, and only small maintenance jobs are carried out in Angola. (macauhub)
