EU boosts financial support for development of fishing in Cape Verde

23 December 2010

Praia, Cape Verde, 23 Dec – The European Union (EU) has raised its financial aid for development of fishing in Cape Verde by 83 percent to 435,000 euros per year, the Cape Verdean director general for Fishing, Adalberto Vieira said.

Cited by the Cape Verdean press, Vieira said that this had been the main result of negotiations, concluded Wednesday in Brussels, to renew the Partnership Agreement in the Fishing Sector that Cape Verde has with the EU.

The new agreement, which will come into force on 1 September, 2011, also outlines a requirement to hire a specific number of Cape Verdean fishermen by European fishing crews. (macauhub)
