Japan finances refurbishment of port of Oecussi enclave, East Timor

Dili, East Timor, 23 Dec – The Japanese government has donated US$14 million for the refurbishment of the sea port of the district of Oecussi, in East Timor, the local press reported.

According to the Japanese ambassador in East Timor, Iwao Kitahara, refurbishment of the port aims to make sea transport easier and assist in the economic growth of the enclave itself.

The ambassador also said that “when I arrived in Oecussi and saw people getting of the ship with water up to their knees, I decided that something had to be done in a short space of time.” (macauhub)
