27 December 2010

Maputo, Mozambique, 27 Dec – The Mozambican government Friday signed a concession contract with Mozambican company Gigawatt-Moçambique for construction and management of a gas-fired power plant in Ressano Garcia, Maputo province.

According to the Mozambican press, the power plant will be fired by natural gas extracted at the Pande and Temane gas fields located on the coastal province of Inhambane, and will have an installed capacity of 100 megawatts.

Currently, around 97 percent of the natural gas extracted at these two fields by South African petrochemical group Sasol is exported to neighbouring South Africa. (macauhub)
