Angolan government to set up tourism hubs in some provinces

29 December 2010

Luanda, Angola, 29 Dec – The creation of tourism hubs in some parts of Angola with natural attractions is one of the main aims of the Hotel and Tourism Ministry for 2011, Minister Pedro Mutindi said in Luanda.

The minister noted that these hubs would be created in line with the specific characteristics of each region and that that the project included building hotels, pavilion and restaurants within the same area, mainly in areas suitable for developing eco tourism.

Initially, the hubs will be created in the locations of Calandula, Malanje province, Cabo Ledo (Bengo) and Okavango (Kuando Kubango), according to the director of the ministry’s legal office, Anabela Silva, noting that the Futungo area, in Samba municipality, had been the location identified for Luanda.

“The process is at an advanced stage and we think that in the first quarter of 2011 these hubs will already be set up, with their respective support facilities,” she said.

The minister, who was making a speech at an end of year ceremony, said that the programme of activities for 2011 also included execution of several bilateral cooperation agreements signed in the tourism sector and the participation in the main tourism fairs in Cuba, Portugal, Spain, Germany and other countries.
