Lobito, Angola, 30 Dec – The port of Lobito, in Angola, between January and November processed over 2.2 million tons of cargo, the chairman of the port, Bento Paixão dos Santos said Tuesday.
Although the cargo processed posted a rise of over 10 percent against 2009, the port’s management company saw the unloading of containers and vehicles drop by over 10 percent, as the port stopped receiving ships containing cargo for the port of Luanda.
In terms of new investments, Paixão dos Santos said that projects were underway to expand the dock and build a dry port to unload container goods.
Another project that is underway is related to construction of a terminal to load and unload ore that is being built on the right bank of Lobito bay.
