11 January 2011

Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil, 11 Jan – Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, Embraer is to supply 10 Embraer 190 jets to Chinese leasing company CDB Leasing, the Brazilian company said Monday.

The aircraft, worth US$400 million, will be operated by air carrier China Southern, based in Guangzhou, and the first delivery is scheduled for the second half of 2011.

In December 2009, Embraer and CDB Leasing, a company controlled by the China Development Bank (CDB), signed a memorandum of understanding with a view to creating financing opportunities for Embraer’s aircraft both in China and other countries.

China Southern has been Embraer’s customer since 2004, operating six regional ERJ 145 jets with between 37 and 50 seats.

China Southern was the fifth-largest airline in the world in 2008 by number of passengers carried, and is still the fourth-largest by number of passengers carried on domestic routes. (macauhub)
