Construction of Shoprite supermarket in Lubango, Angola ends in June

Lubango, Angola, 25 Jan – South African retail group Shoprite has invested US$12 million in construction of a supermarket, in the Angolan city of Lubango, which is expected to open this year, according to Angolan news agency Angop.

Citing an official from construction company, Edibap, Stephan Strapazzo, Angop said that the supermarket was being built on a 6,000 square-metre plot that will also be home to two banks (Banco Espírito Santo Angola and South Africa’s Standard Bank) and a car park for 120 vehicles.

Strapazzo also said that work to build the supermarket began in 2010, and its conclusion is due in June.

Strapazzo also said that the Shoprite group this year planned to build a warehouse on the outskirts of Lubango and three supermarkets, in the municipal areas of Matala and Kuvango and in Namibe province.

Shoprite has two supermarkets in Luanda province and one in Huambo. (macauhub)
