First report on Mozambican mining industry published Friday

15 February 2011

Maputo, Mozambique, 15 Feb – The first Mozambican report on the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is due to be published Friday in the city of Nampula, the Natural Resources Ministry said in Maputo.

The ministry said that the report would include all tax payments to the government made by companies in the mining and oil sectors.

The meeting to present the report is being organised by the Mining Resources Ministry in partnership with the African Development bank (ADB) and the World Bank, and is expected to be attended by members of the central and provincial governments and representatives of the country’s mining and oil sector companies and cooperation partners.

The EITI is an international agenda that aims to ensure that extractive and related industries all over the world, mainly in developing countries, actually contribute to social and economic development and not just to producing fabulous profit for some. (macauhub)
