21 February 2011

Maputo, Mozambique, 21 Feb – The new domestic terminal at Maputo International Airport is due to be completed in 18 months, following its launch Saturday by Mozambican Transport and Communications Minister, Paulo Zucula.

The work, which is estimated to cost US$36 million, was awarded to China’s Anhui Foreign Economic Construction (Group) Co. Ltd. (AFECC), and is due to begin with the demolition of the current facilities.

The new terminal will have two large, modern lounges with capacity to deal with 580 passengers per hour, at peak times, 14 check-in desks equipped with modern passenger processing technology, as well as a retail area.

As work is being carried out on the old terminal, Mozambican airport management company, Aeroportos de Moçambique has prepared provisional facilities to provide a similar level of service to that provided in the old terminal whilst the work is underway. (macauhub)
