4 March 2011

Luanda, Angola, 4 March – Portuguese company Moreira Congelados plans to build a factory to freeze fish in Angola in order to provide a service to industrial shippers and artisanal fishermen, said the company’s commercial director.

Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, from Lisbon by telephone, Osvaldo Moreira said that the facility, which will be set up in one of Angola’s coastal provinces, also planned to make use of motor and oar-driven boats to support the development of artisanal fishing.

Moreira said that the company’s board of directors had sent a funding proposal for its project to the European Union in order to later, “move ahead with a meeting with the Angolan authorities to discuss more concrete details.”

The company has been in the Portuguese market for 33 years, after leaving Angola ahead of the country’s independence in November 1975.

Moreira Congelados has its own brands that it sells in Spain, Italy, France, Brazil, Venezuela, Canada, the United States and Asian countries. (macauhub)
