Finland donates 21 million euros to Mozambique

10 March 2011

Maputo, Mozambique, 10 March – Finland has decided to donate 21 million euros to be handed over as direct Budgetary Aid in the 2011-2013 period in equal yearly amounts, under the terms of an agreement signed Wednesday in Maputo.

The document was signed following a pledge made last year by Finland to continue providing budgetary aid in the same amounts as in 2010 – 7 million euros.

Finland’s ambassador to Mozambique, Kari Alanko, said he hoped that the government would actively face the challenges of reducing poverty, which required an increase in agricultural production, and development of rural areas, which most poor people lived.

Noting the funds provided by Finland, Mozambique’s Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister, Oldemiro Balói, promised that they would be applied in line with the donor’s priorities. (macauhub)
