13 April 2011

Dili, East Timor, 13 April – The East Timor Finance Ministry has set up a website to make investments and expenditure by the government public, officials said in Dili Wednesday.

The Transparency website (http://www.transparency.gov.tl/public/index?&lang=pt), which has a version in English, Portuguese and Tetum, aims to boost transparency and the accounting processes of public bodies, providing access to figures for the last ten years.

According to East Timor’s finance minister, Emília Pires, “this venture was set up by the Finance Ministry, as we felt the need to have a mechanism to educate civil society about public management.”

The website operates with a real time database and is constantly updated. (macauhub)
