Maputo, Mozambique, 15 April –Mozambique’s exports to Portugal fell 32 percent in 2010, from 42.8 million euros to 29.2 million euros, according to figures from Portuguese export and investment promotion agency, AICEP published in Maputo.
Portugal’s exports to Mozambique totalled 151 million euros in 2010 whilst in 2009 the total was 120.9 million eurosAICEP’s figures show that the drop in Mozambican exports to Portugal was related to a reduced supply of sugar.
Despite the drop in export volume of Mozambican exports, Portugal remains one of the top ten destinations for Mozambican products (ninth in 2009), whilst increasing its position as a supplier to Mozambique, rising from ninth to fifth place.
AICEP’s figures also showed that there was a 71 percent drop in Portuguese investment in Mozambique, which fell from 161.8 million euros in 2009, to 45.9 million euros in 2010. (macauhub)
