Maputo, Mozambique, 19 April – Parking in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, will be charged for beginning this week as part of a measures intended to “reduce traffic,” the town councillor for Transport and Traffic, João Matlhombe said Monday.

The Maputo municipal authorities had planned to introduce parking meters as of Monday, but the company managing the project delayed the move for a few days because, “it is still training staff that will be responsible for charging,” drivers, Matlhombe told Portuguese news agency Lusa.

The service will be managed by a Mozambican and South African consortium which, according to the councillor for Transport and Traffic for Maputo, will apply the charges via pre-paid cards or in cash. (macauhub)
