Maputo, Mozambique, 21 April – A unit to process precious and semi-precious stones owned by Mozambique Gems is due to be opened Thursday by Mozambique’s Mining Resources Minister, Esperança Bias, during a visit to Nampula province, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported.
Located in Moma district, Mozambique Gems’ processing unit has the capacity to produce 200 to 300 grams of precious and semi-precious stones per day and is the result of a US$280,000 investment.
The facility is funded by Mozambican, Brazilian and Guinean investments and with the inauguration of the unit is moving away from artisanal production to semi-industrial production in response to appeals and incentives from the Mining resources ministry with a view to improving and increasing production capacity.
Mozambique Gems employs a total of 47 staff including foreigners and Mozambicans. (macauhub)
