Assomada, Cape Verde, 6 May – The French Development Agency (AFD) is to co-fund the project to supply water and sanitation to the municipal area of Santa Catarina on the Cape Verdean island of Santiago, said the area’s mayor Francisco Tavares, according to Cape Verdean news agency Inforpress.

Following a visit to the French municipal area of Amiens, with which Santa Catarina is twinned, Tavares said that it was agreed that the project would also be funded by the French municipal area and the European Union.

According to the mayor, it was also decided that the project would be carried out over the next three years, and the programme was due to be approved on 23 June at a meeting in Cape Verde.

Urbanism was another area considered during the mission carried out in the last week of April, and Tavares announced the arrival of a technical mission for the Amiens Urbanism Agency, which will set up a cooperation programme for the next three years.

The project also includes technical assistance for the municipal area of Santa Catarina over the next three years, as well as setting up two laboratories: One to assess water quality and the other to test and maintain water storage containers. (macauhub)
