Chinese delegation headed by trade minister seeks business opportunities in Brazil

Brasilia, Brazil, 16 May – A delegation of 66 Chinese businesspeople headed by the Chinese Trade Minister, Chen Deming, has been in Brazil since Saturday seeking business opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, energy, mining and aviation, the Brazilian press reported.

The delegation is due Monday to return to China and before leaving Chen Deming is scheduled to meet with Brazil’s Minister for Foreign Relations, Antônio Patriota, and Development, Industry and Foreign Trade Minister, Fernando Pimentel, whilst the Chinese businesspeople and representatives of Brazilian companies are due to meet in Brasilia to discuss investment opportunities in Brazil.

According to the Brazilian press, Chen Deming and Fernando Pimentel are due to discuss issue such as investment opportunities in Brazil, statistical harmonisation, intellectual property and customs cooperation and will attend a ceremony to sign a memorandum of understanding between Brazilian investment promotion agency Apex-Brasil and its Chinese counterpart the China Investment Promotion Agency (CIPA).

Part of the delegation arrived in Brazil Friday and on that same day took part in a business meeting in Sao Paulo at the headquarters of the federation of Industries of the State of Sao Paulo (Fiesp), during which the Brazilian businesspeople made harsh criticisms of the Chinese government’s foreign exchange policy.
