Silos due to be built soon in Mozambique’s Zambézia province

Maputo, Mozambique, 31 May – Work is due to start soon to build silos to store agricultural products in Mozambique’s Zambézia province, according to Mozambican daily newspaper Notícias citing a source from the national directorate for Industry and Trade.

On the sidelines of a meeting on agricultural trade, the source said that some equipment needed for construction had been delivered to the province and that some technical teams had been prepared to move into the areas.

Construction of silos in the main areas of production is part of the Government’s strategy to reduce post-harvest losses and introduce facilities to the process of selling agricultural products in Mozambique.

Officials from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the district services for Economic Activities and the Mozambican Grains Institute met in Maputo with the aim of harmonising procedures and training technical staff in areas linked to agricultural trade.

The seminar was the first following the decentralisation of activities, which focuses on districts becoming development hubs, a process in which district directorates for industry and trade were replaced by district services for economic activities. (macauhub)
