Praia, Cape Verde, 1 June – Cape Verde’s National Statistics Institute (INE) Tuesday signed a cooperation protocol with its Spanish counterpart to boost institutional capacity to produce economic and environmental statistics, according to Cape Verdean news agency Inforpress.
The protocol, which makes existing cooperation official, outlines support for changing the base year for national accounts, via the 2008 accounting system recommended by the United Nations.
Speaking to the news agency, the chairman of INE, António Duarte noted the importance of this partnership for INE and for the National Statistics System as a whole, saying that with this support Cape Verde would be able to provide quarterly accounting reports, regional accounts and environmental statistics.
As well as technical support in carrying out these statistical operations, the cooperation protocol also includes training.
At the moment, technical staff from INE is benefitting from training and a working plan is being drawn up for the next three years, which includes technical missions by Spain’s INE to support Cape Verde in the identified areas. (macauhub)
