Macau, China, 24 June – Macau received over 11 million visitors in the first five months of 2011, a rise of 7.2 percent against the same period of 2010, the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said.
In that period the number of visitors from China (6.2 million), Hong Kong (3.1 million) and South Korea (164,000) rose by 13.7 percent, 3.0 percent and 22.8 percent, respectively. The number of visitors from Taiwan (488,000), from Japan (152,000) and Malaysia (129,000) fell by 10.5 percent, 9.9 percent and 11.5 percent, respectively.
From January to May some 4.3 million visitors arrived in Macau by sea (2.5 percent more), 6 million by land (12.5 percent more) and 669,000 people arrived by air (5.3 percent less).
In May alone Macau received 2.2 million visitors, 1.3 million of which, or 57.8 percent, were from mainland China. (macauhub)
