Angolan government hoping for speedier negotiations with DRC on oil exploration

4 July 2011

Soyo, Angola, 4 July – Angola’s Oil minister last week asked the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to speed up negotiations underway on joint oil exploration.

Speaking in the municipality of Soyo, where he travelled for a meeting on oil exploration with his counterpart from Congo Brazzaville, Botelho de Vasconcelos said that the process was moving forward slowly and denied a stalemate on the side of the Angolan government.

“We have been working with our neighbours in the mixed commission, which was set up in 2009, in which we analyse the situation relating to the possibility of setting up joint exploration in areas of common interest,” he said.

The Oil minister also said that, during the meeting, the commission set out a plan of action to cover these issues but added that the Angolan government was still waiting, “for communication from the DRC authorities.” (macauhub)
