Cape Verdean airline interested in flying between Bissau and Lisbon

5 July 2011

Bissau, Guinea Bissau, 5 July – The chairman of Cape Verdean state airline TACV, António Neves said Monday in Bissau, the capital of Guinea Bissau, that the company may launch scheduled flights between Bissau and Lisbon.

“There is interest on our side as well as from the Guinea Bissau authorities,” Neves said whilst summarising a five-day visit for contacts with the Guinean authorities.

The chairman of TACV did not provide a date when the company would launch flights between Bissau and Lisbon, but noted that “everything points to it happening soon,” particularly the interest shown by the Guinean authorities.

The Cape Verdean executive noted that TACV had been in Guinea Bissau since 1992 and that, even in the period of the civil war in 1998/99 it had not left the country.

The Cape Verdean airline currently links Bissau to the city of Praia, with a stop off in Senegal, five days a week.

In addition to TACV, only Senegal Air Lines, linking Bissau and Dakar, and TAP – Air Portugal, which links the Guinean capital to Lisbon three times a week, operate in Guinea Bissau. (macauhub)
