Angola to equip three hydroelectric facilities with machinery imported from Germany

15 July 2011

Luanda, Angola, 15 July – Three large hydroelectric dams will be built in Angola over the next few years using equipment imported from Germany , Angola’s President, José Eduardo dos Santos said Wednesday in Luanda.

After a two-hour meeting with German chancellor, Angela Merkel, who was visiting Angola, dos Santos said that importing the German-made equipment for the three dams would lead to trade of over 1 billion euros.

“As well as this,” the President said, “we are directing the companies that work with us to import German-made equipment.”

In relation to his meeting with Merkel, dos Santos said that they discussed transfer of “know how” and training of qualified staff.

“I informed her that we now have a new investment law that will make it possible to overcome some bureaucratic difficulties and constraints of the previous law and provide better protection for new investments,” he noted. (macauhub)
