Cape Verde and European Union sign new fishing agreement

Brussels, Belgium, 29 July – Cape Verde and the European Union Wednesday in Brussels signed a new three-year fishing agreement due to be implemented from 1 September after the current protocol between them expires in August, 2011.

European fishing boats will be authorised to catch a quota of 5,000 tons of fish per year in Cape Verde’s territorial waters and the EU will pay financial compensation of 435,000 euros to Cape Verde, as compared to 385,000 euros in the previous protocol.

The European Union will also provide 110,000 euros to the Cape Verdean state to support fishing sector policy. (macauhub)
