Governor of Mozambique’s Gaza province satisfied with Chinese personnel working in rice production

8 August 2011

Maputo, Mozambique, 8 Aug – Gaza Province Governor Raimundo Diomba said he is very impressed by the Chinese technical personnel working in irrigated rice production in southern Mozambique’s lower Limpopo region.

“The presence of Chinese personnel here in the lower Limpopo irrigation area meets our expectations,” Diomba said.

A group of Chinese specialists are applying new rice production technologies in the region, which have enabled production to rise to nine or ten tonnes per hectare versus the previous two or three tonnes.

The presence of the Chinese personnel results from an agreement signed by the governments of the provinces of Gaza in Mozambique and Hubei in China.

Mozambique is a deficit country with respect to rice, as it imports about half or 300,000 tonnes of its domestic consumption needs. (macauhub)
