17 August 2011

Maputo, Mozambique, 17 Aug – Mozambique and South Africa are to start issuing a single visa, Mozambique’s Tourism Minister Fernando Sumbana who said that the measure would make things easier for people who plan to visit both countries.

Speaking to Mozambican newspaper O País, Sumbana said that Mozambique had been the main promoter of the single visa for the member-states of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) calling for the initiative to cover the 14 countries in the bloc.

South Africa’s tourism minister, Marthinus Schalkwyk, said, in his turn, that it was imperative to make it easier for tourists to travel within the different SADC countries, especially in terms of international arrivals.

Schalkwyk also said that the discussion of the single visa had been underway for some time and added, “we hope to conclude the initiative very soon.” (macauhub)
