Maputo, Mozambique, 19 Aug – The Mozambican government, with the financial support of Japan and Vietnam, is investing US$4 million to increase rice production in the irrigated area of Entabo, in Zambezia province, Rádio Moçambique reported.
The investment includes agricultural research, growth of production per hectare, as well as production of quality seed, in order to increase production of rice due to the high water potential available in the region.
The Entabo irrigation area covers 300 hectares, of which 115 hectares are explored by the 170members of the local agricultural association.
The government’s idea is to explore all the available land, in order to increase rice production to increase food security and the income of rural families.
The radio station said that with this investment it would be possible to produce rice twice a year. (macauhub)
