US oil company Anadarko finds natural gas in Mozambique’s Rovuma basin

23 August 2011

Maputo, Mozambique, 23 Aug – US oil company Anadarko has found a natural gas well in the Rovuma basin off the coast of Mozambique, at a depth of 4,000 metres the company announced.

The well is approximately 70 metres deep and contains around 169 billion cubic metres of liquid natural gas.

“Our first evaluation meets our expectations, confirming the seismic model that we were expecting, giving us confidence in our geological interpretation,” said Anadarko’s vice president, Bob Daniels.

Barquentine-2 is an Anadarko programme that aims to confirm the existence of liquid natural gas reserves from the Oligocene period in the Windjammer, Barquentine and Lagosta block.

Through its recent discovery of Barquentine-2, in Rovuma, Anadarko confirmed its projection that there are commercially-viable natural gas reserves in the region. (macauhub)
