Lisbon, Portugal, 14 Sept – Portuguese group Ongoing plans to set up a Research and Development Centre in China under the terms of an agreement signed with government of Fujian province, the company said in a statement issued in Lisbon.
The aim of the deal is “to develop businesses in the area of technology between Ongoing and local companies and promote deals between provincial bodies and companies in the Portuguese-speaking market, particularly Brazil, Portugal and Angola,” the statement said.
The partnership also covers cooperation in the development of initiatives to promote the culture of the Portuguese and Chinese languages in Fujian and the Portuguese-speaking countries.
The agreement, which also outlines the creation of a Chinese-Portuguese cultural centre, was signed during the 15th edition of the China International Fair for Investment and Trade, in Xiamen.
“As well as coming up with technological solutions adapted to the Chinese market – in the area of software for health or teaching making use of electronic means, for example – we want to link together businesses and investment projects with Portuguese-speaking countries, which is also of interest to China,” said Fernando Maia Cerqueira, the group’s director for China.
Ongoing has been in the Chinese market since the beginning of 2011 when it opened a representative office in Beijing. (macauhub)
