Maputo, Mozambique, 15 Sept – Banco Único, the newest financial institution in Mozambique, Wednesday inaugurated its headquarters building that simultaneously provides a branch and an area for dealing with business customers, the Mozambican press reported.
By opening its headquarters building, Banco Único, which launched itself onto the Mozambican financial market this year, now has a total of five branches, four of which are in Maputo and one in the neighbouring city of Matola.
With initial capital of US$20 million, which is expected to be doubled by the end of the year, Banco Único has the aims, in the mid term, to position itself amongst the benchmark banks in the Mozambican market, whilst also contributing to the efforts being made to improve the banking rate of the country’s economy.
The Chief executive of Banco Único, João Figueiredo, said that the bank was universal with a string focus on retail banking aimed initially ay business and individuals that want a personalised, quality service.
Banco Único is controlled by the consortium of Portuguese groups Américo Amorim and Visabeira, and the remaining shareholders are Mozambique’s social security system, Instituto Nacional de Segurança Social de Moçambique (INSS), Rural Consult, DHD, SS of Mozambican businessman Salimo Abdula, Agro-Alfa, and other Mozambican investors.
