Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 19 Sept – Portuguese urban transport company Carris is to carry out the refurbishment of the fleet of trams of Santa Teresa, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Sérgio Cabral said Friday.
The governor, who was speaking at the 6th Brazil-Portugal Business Meeting, said that the service to refurbish the fleet was due to being this week and that Carris, a company that managed the service in the 1940s, would modernise the trams with the technology installed in those used in Lisbon.
“As of Monday, Carris will start working with the government of Rio de Janeiro in order to, as quickly as possible, put the tram, which here we call a “bonde,” in Santa Teresa, where it should be. This is one of the calling cards of the beautiful city that is Rio de Janeiro,” said Portugal’s deputy Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Miguel Relvas. (macauhub)
