30 September 2011

Maputo, Mozambique, 30 Sept – The start of natural gas exploration in Mozambique’s Rovuma basin will be known within a year, said the Minister for mining Resources, Esperança Bias, according to Rádio de Moçambique.

Bias said the best way of making use of the natural gas was being studied in order for Mozambique to be one of the main beneficiaries.

The minister also told Rádio Moçambique that the natural gas reserves discovered by US company Anadarko Petroleum alone are expected to last for over 20 years.

She also said that other companies, such as Malaysia’s Petronas, were currently carrying out preparatory work and would start prospecting in the blocs they have in the Rovuma basin. (macauhub)
