Maputo, Mozambique, 20 Oct – Mozambique and Brazil agreed Wednesday to extend bilateral cooperation to include the possibility Brazilian funding of the Moamba Major dam, in Maputo province, the Mozambican Minister for Industry and Trade said Wednesday in Maputo.
Cited by Mozambican newspaper Notícias, Minister Armando Inroga said that some member of the Brazilian government in President Dilma Rousseff’s delegation had shown interest in the dam project and suggested they might fund it.
The Moamba Major dam has several objectives, including water supply to the Greater Maputo region, electricity production and agricultural development.
At the meeting between the two government delegations a decision was made for a Brazilian mission headed by the Minister for Industry, Development and Foreign Trade in November to settle the details with the Mozambican authorities of the agreement of principles adopted by the Heads of State during this visit.
The meeting was also used to discuss issues related to increasing political relations, development of the agricultural project associated to Prosavana, in the Nacala Corridor, and the anti retroviral medication factory due to open in 2012. (macauhub)
