Maputo, Mozambique, 24 Oct – The construction of the bridge linking the Mozambican capital Maputo to the district of Catembe has secured funding from China, said the managing director of the Centre for Investment Promotion (CPI), Lourenço Sambo, cited by Mozambican newspaper O País.
Sambo sad that Chinese participation in this project was part of the country’s increasing involvement in the Mozambican economy.
China’s involvement in this project has solved a problem that arose after Portugal became unable to honour its commitment as a result of the serious financial crisis it is experiencing.
The Maputo/Catembe bridge project is expected to cost US$300 million and includes construction of the road between Catembe and Ponta do Ouro next to the border with South Africa and its conclusion was previously scheduled for 2014. (macauhub)
