Mozambican sugar company Companhia do Sena plans to generate electricity from sugar cane waste

Maputo, Mozambique, 24 Oct – Mozambican sugar company Companhia do Sena plans to invest in a power plant fuelled by sugar cane biomass (bagasse), according to Mozambican newspaper Notícias.

Companhia do Sena, which produces sugar and its derivatives at its facility in the Marromeu district of Sofala province, plans to sell the power generated at the plant to national electricity company Electricidade de Moçambique (EdM).

Notícias said that the project was expected to cost 2 million euros and that Companhia de Sena was preparing an initial plan that included negotiation with EdM for large-scale power production. (macauhub)
