Maputo, Mozambique, 4 Nov – The proposed law to set up the Mozambican Order of Accountants and Auditors was approved Thursday by the Mozambican parliament, Mozambican newspaper Notícias reported.

There are currently 3,353 accountants, 93 accountancy firms and 11 auditing companies registered with the Finance Ministry, a number that the government expects will grow as universities and institutes have been training students for this sector.

The Order of Accountants and Auditors will define the rules of access to the profession of accountancy and auditing, manage all aspects of access to and carrying out the profession, in order to ensure its technical and functional independence, to defend the dignity and prestige of its members as well as their rights.
