9 November 2011

Lisbon, Portugal, 9 Nov – Autoeuropa, the Portuguese subsidiary of German automotive group Volkswagen, Tuesday sent its first direct shipment of vehicles to China, which will no longer need to first be sent to Germany, the company’s managing director said.

According to website Setúbal na Rede, Autoeuropa will directly export its vehicles to China without first having to send them to the port of Emden, in Germany, as “there has been a high number of orders that made it possible to fill a whole ship,” said António de Melo Pires.

The focus on the Chinese market by Autoeuropa is clear, not only through the introduction of the Sharan and Alhambra models in China, but also because of the good performance of brands that it already produces for the country (Eos e Scirocco).

Carmo Jardim, spokesperson for Autoeuropa, confirmed exactly that by saying the shipment was of, “enormous importance, as China could become one of the main destinations for vehicle manufacturing at Autoeuropa.” (macauhub)
