European Union plans to raise Cape Verde’s financial aid package

10 November 2011

Praia, Cape Verde, 10 Nov– The funding granted to Cape Verde as part of its Special Partnership with the European Unit is expected to increase, the director for Political Affairs and Cooperation of the Foreign relations Ministry said in Praia Wednesday.

Fernando Wahnom, who was speaking on the sidelines of a meeting of the Local Supervision Group (LSG) of the EU-Cape Verde Special Partnership, confirmed the announcement by the EU representative, Josep Coll, according to which the positive assessment of the last three years had made it possible to slightly increase the archipelago’s financial aid.

“With the review at the halfway point and given Cape Verde’s absorption rate we are going to increase the initial package negotiated as part of the Special Partnership with the European Union,” noted Wahnom, who mentioned “a substantial rise,” because Brussels had made the proposal, “but its has not been decided.”

The participants in the meeting, which aims to prepare an expanded meeting for 24 November in Brussels including all services and member states, also discussed the preliminary results of the Special Partnership and the partnership programme for 2011/2012. (macauhub)
