Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric dam to provide more stable electricity to city of Tete

16 November 2011

Maputo, Mozambique, 16 Nov – The Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric dam (HCB) has invested US$1.1 million to buy a more powerful transformer to be installed in the Matambo substation on the outskirts of the city of Tete, the company said in a statement published in Maputo.

According to the statement, the 60 MVA (megavolt amperes) equipment will be installed by 20 November to replace the current 40 MVA transformer, which has been in use for over 30 years.

This new transformer, the company said, will provide a more stable supply of electricity to the city of Tete and make it possible for the power grid to respond to growing demand for electricity in the province, particularly as a result of the rapid growth of the mining industry. (macauhub)
