Cuiabá, Brazil, 25 Nov – Chinese businesspeople and representatives of the China Development Bank and China National Machinery said they were interested in investing in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso during a meeting with the governor of the State, Silval Barbosa, the Brazilian press reported.

At the meeting with the governor and the extraordinary secretary to Accompany Intermodal Transport Logistics, Francisco Vuolo, the Chinese businesspeople handed over a document they called an outline of a proposed cooperation agreement to be analysed by the State government.

The Chinese businesspeople showed significant interest in investing in the agricultural, mining and construction sectors and Vuolo said that the priorities of the state government were focused on logistics and infrastructure and mentioned construction of the Cuiabá-Santarém railroad.

“Investment in transport, especially railroads, opens up a great opportunity to explore ore mines in the State, which is a sector that is also of interest to the Chinese businesspeople,” noted Vuolo.

In his turn, the chairman of Asia Trade & Investments, Marco Polo Moreira Leite, who accompanied the delegation, noted that studies for construction of the railroad had already been carried out and that a working group from China National Machinery was scheduled to meet with the state governor on 8 December.
