Taiwan industrial and cultural product fair opens in Sao Tome and Principe

Sao Tome, Sao Tome and Principe, 13 Dec – A fair for products from Taiwan opened to the public Monday in Sao Tome, according to Ambassador Chung Chen, “to boost commercial and cultural bilateral ties.”

Held in a hotel in the capital of Sao Tome and Principe, the Products from the Cultural and Creative Industries of China, Taiwan Fair, which is due to close Wednesday was opened by Ambassador Chung Chen and by minister and secretary general of the Sao Tome government, Afonso Varela, in the presence of diplomats and businesspeople.

As well as computer equipment, the fair also presents a variety of socio-economic and cultural products from Taiwan, specifically ceramics, lead crystal and traditional arts.

This is the second time in two years that the Taiwanese authorities have held the fair in Sao Tome.

Taiwan, which established diplomatic relations with Sao Tome over ten years ago, has become one of the main development partners of the West African country, providing over US$15 million per year in aid and technical assistance.

Sao Tome is the only Portuguese-speaking country that has diplomatic relations with Taiwan. (macauhub)
