Macau launches new public tender for fixed line telephone operators

18 January 2012

Macau, China, 18 Jan – The Macau Bureau of Telecommunications Regulation has launched a public tender to grant two licenses for installation and operation of pubic fixed line telecommunications networks, according to an official announcement.

The tender is part of the process of total liberalisation of the telecommunications market in Macau which, in terms of fixed line telecommunications, has been monopolised by Companhia de Telecomunicações de Macau (CTM).

CTM, which is a partnership between Chinese, British and Portuguese investors, is operating the fixed line service under the terms of a new license with the same rules and conditions that will be applied to the two new operators.

The new fixed line telephone operators will have to set up their own networks within 18 months of receiving their license, which will end for both CTM and the new operators on 31 December, 2021. (macauhub)
